Learning a new skill can be a daunting challenge but the sense of achievement that you have at the end of it can drive you to realising that with a little application anything is possible, and that is one of the reasons why writing these art work life balances came about.
Late last year I passed my driving test, I’m not a natural driver and had to work really hard, I spent a lot of time readjusting my time to fit in lessons. A month before we hired a bicycle-car on holiday and it seemed like every spare moment at least in the weeks leading up to my practical test were focussed on passing this test; from looking at roundabouts on google maps, to being driven around with a friend and taking notes and extra lessons out and about with my Dad and the driving instructor.
My life had become heavily tilted towards passing this test but you could apply this temporary imbalance to any new tests or challenges, though hard work, learning a new skill is usually fun! It doesn’t have to be learning to drive it could be learning to speak another language, or taking a course in something you’ve always had an interest in.
Sometimes when learning stops you might think that’s it I’ve done it, but the trick is to keep learning and applying what you’ve learnt using your new skills, by writing an essay, or going to another country and speaking their language, honing your driving skills, or making some new art.
