The 7 Day Art Work Life Balance plan

If you would like a healthy art work life balance in just 1 week then why not try these seven daily exercises, and let us know how you get on!

Day One. The art work life balance

balance

First stand on one leg and imagine you have three bags; one for art, one for life, one for work, hanging from both your arms and one leg. Sort through these bags, which one is the most important to you? Is there one that is too heavy and causing an imbalance? Which are you prepared to make the most effort to carry?

Think about which one you don’t mind being heavier and adjust the contents of your bags if you can, remove any unnecessary items that might prevent you from getting the right balance. To bear the weight of one you might need to make the other two lighter.

This can be performed for any length of time and repeated until you feel you have a healthy art life balance.

Day Two. The love life art work life see-saw

Go to your nearest park that has a see-saw, you can perform this alone, with a friend or a loved one, when you make art there will be times when you are at the top and out of reach of your friends and family but you need to find the right balance and can’t be in one place all the time, you may also need their support to get to that place so while on your see saw think about the people who support you or you want to chat to and think about the art/work that you have to do and recognise that there are times when you need to be with friends and loved ones and there are times when you have to concentrate on your art/work, there are also the times in between.

Day Three. The Art Work Life book balance

Pick 3 books, one for art, one for work, one for life, balance them on your head and if you can, try walking, think about the way these interrelate perhaps to find a healthier art work life balance you need to look for the commonground, what links these together? as you stand or walk you might want to try balancing other books or even dvds or other forms of information, though please do not try this with a tablet or electronic reading device.

Day Four. Do Something new, go to a place you’ve never been, see all the people that you’ve never seen, inspiration can come from unlikely places.

My suggestion is a Karaoke Bar. Lose your self in a song, think about the song you choose what the lyrics mean to you maybe they can help you find a healthier art work life balance.

Day Five. Make something.

This can be anything, use household objects a washing up bottle, toilet rolls, cereal boxes, think about Thunderbirds and when the Blue Peter team made Tracey Island think about being a kid, craft together an interpretation of a contemporary art work out of cardboard, make yourself a badge – Art Work Life badge makers get in free.

Day Six. This is your Life Art Work

Find time to think and write down the things you have done, the people you have met, and how all of these things connect, this may take some time so you don’t have to do this in an hour or a day keep returning to it each week.

Day Seven. On the seventh day it seems logical for any creative person to Rest

Go for a long walk, and when you return you could make a hammock, sleep in a comfortable place, go to bed early, or just sleep when you are tired and wake up feeling refreshed and ready to spend another week trying to find your Art Work Life Balance.
